Meet AIU Faculty/Staff
Meet Dr. Hal Campbell: He Knows What He's Talking About
When Dr. Hal Campbell talks about education, you'd be well served to listen.
Dr. Campbell has spent over twenty-five years teaching at the collegiate level and specializes in the field of Criminal Justice. He has taught a variety of classes at traditional campuses and, more recently, at online universities.
Concurrent with that teaching experience, he was also active in the criminal justice field. He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff and upon receiving his Ph.D., was selected for promotion to Chief Analyst and Law Enforcement Planning Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
"Everyone's heard the old adage that, 'Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach.' Well, that isn't true at AIU Online. If you look closely at the qualifications of the faculty of AIU you will soon discover that the faculty brings not only academic expertise to the classroom, but professional experience as well. In fact, this is the hallmark of AIU Online's curriculum. The educational model embraced by AIU Online provides students with faculty who not only hold advanced degrees, but decades of professional experience as well."
Dr. Campbell says this career-relevant curriculum is just one of the advantages that allows AIU Online to provide its students with one of the best educations in the country. "AIU Online goes to great lengths to attract outstanding faculty and to develop comprehensive curriculum that is then delivered to the students through one of the most advanced virtual university interfaces possible. The education AIU Online provides, and the manner in which it is delivered, far exceeds the educational experience provided by most other degree programs. AIU Online doesn't just approximate the classroom experience found at most traditional universities, it far exceeds it by providing an active learning environment."
Dr. Campbell assessment applies not only to the school's curriculum in general but also to the Criminal Justice program in specific, which he has taught in for the past three years.
"I don't believe that the AIU Online curriculum in Criminal Justice is so highly concentrated that it is limiting. On the contrary, I believe it is sufficiently broad in its approach and rigorous enough in its depth of coverage that it provides our students with an enhanced level of understanding of the fundamentals associated with law enforcement, corrections, probation, technology, and law."
"Upon graduation, AIU Online students are well prepared, in my opinion, to pursue many career opportunities and can apply their criminal justice degree to a variety of endeavors. These include police officer, corrections officer, or the multitude of law enforcement careers offered through the newly formed Department of Homeland Security."
"I think it is important that any college student recognize that undergraduate degrees are supposed to provide a breadth of knowledge. It is the goal of an undergraduate program to expose students to various aspects of the field, so that they understand the fundamentals of the discipline and can make an informed decision upon graduation about what area they would most like to specialize within."
While developing this breadth and depth of knowledge about the criminal justice field is demanding of students, AIU Online also holds its faculty to high standards, requiring equal dedication and time from them.
"AIU Online is far more demanding of its faculty members than other institutions." This is one of the reasons why Dr. Campbell believes an AIU Online education is so outstanding. "Faculty members are online in the virtual classroom, posting to discussion boards, answering emails, reading project submissions, and, with the instant messaging capabilities, we're only a mouse click away from a student, no matter where they are or what time of day it is for them. The AIU Online Virtual Campus is a rich learning environment that provides a variety of features which support the student as they progress toward their degree."
"When you look at everything AIU Online offers - the curriculum, the faculty, the Virtual Commons, discussion boards, labs, chats, instant messaging, instructional software - I believe it is so far superior to any other online degree program. After having spent as much time as I have teaching, I can say that the AIU Online experience isn't just good, it's one of the best."
