Ray Nagel
CEO Maine Veterans' Homes, AIU Online MBA grad

The abrupt departure of Maine Veterans' Homes' three top executives was great for AIU Online MBA grad Ray Nagel. In its June 13, 2006 issue, Blethen Maine Newspapers reported Nagel, a health care administrator for more than 20 years, was offered the position of CEO with Maine Veterans' Homes after a nationwide search. Nagel relocated to Maine from Florida and started in early July.

A Gulf War veteran who remains active in the U.S. Army Reserves, Nagel is the new leader of over 1,000 employees at Maine Veterans' Homes. In his previous position, as CEO of MACtown, Inc., which provided nursing and other care for individuals with developmental disabilities, Nagel managed 150 people. Nagel credits his MBA with giving him the confidence to head up such a large organization.

Maine Veterans' Homes has 640 beds scattered throughout six cities in Maine and offers long-term health care to Maine's military veterans, their spouses, widows, and Gold Star parents. Nagel is based at the organization's central office in Augusta.

In the Blethen Maine Newspapers article, the chairman of the board of Maine Veterans' Homes, Maj. Gen. Stephen Nichols was quoted. "Ray Nagel has impressive leadership and administrative skills and an extensive health care background. We are very pleased to have him as our new Chief Executive Officer."

For Nagel's part, he told Maine Blethen Newspaper, "I'm pretty good at building teams and getting people to work together. That's what my goal [at Maine Veterans' Homes] is." Nagel further told the paper this new CEO position seemed like the perfect match. "This is what I want to do."

Nagel graduated with his Bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and got his MBA from AIU Online.
