Tim Schilbach
Calm in the Eye of the Storm

Tim Schilbach has only been in the civilian workforce since 2000-he spent eight years in the Army's 82nd Airborne division previously-but has already racked up an impressive résumé, especially when it comes to working fast and under pressure.

Schilbach, who is working towards his Master's degree in Information Technology through AIU Online, is currently the project manager for IT integrator Apogen Technologies, Inc. While he was hired to build a dual data center for the Agriculture Department's National Finance Center, Schilbach really shined during Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane shut down the National Finance Center, which distributes paychecks and manages benefits for federal civilian employees. Tim quickly moved operations to a temporary facility in Philadelphia and didn't miss a single payroll.

"This was a massive effort," Tim told Washington Technology for a June 26, 2006, article on him. "You would sleep a half-hour here and a half-hour there."

Now that the National Finance Center is back on track and operations are running smoothly, Tim is focusing on his original job of building the dual data center.

"If you were looking for somebody you could bring into a project and say, 'This is what I need for you to do,' Tim's the guy you want, because he does it without a miss," said Judi Bruns, director and division manager for the federal civilian group at Apogen, in the Washington Technology article. "On paper, Tim walks on water."

Tim's goal is to become CIO, chief technology officer or chief security officer of Apogen. Hopefully he can do it with his Master's degree in IT through AIU Online.

"Knowledge is power. After that, it's about getting noticed, doing the right thing and keeping in line with your goals and morals," he told Washington Technology.
